AUSTRALIA DAY DINNER
Saturday 26 January 2008
The Australiana Society's 2008 Australia Day dinner
was held at the Petersham Bowling Club, Petersham NSW starting at
6pm with drinks and a game of bowls on Saturday 26 January.
This day coincided with the 200th anniversary of
the Rum Rebellion, and we were fortunate to have the lively and erudite
speaker Paul Brunton, Senior Curator at the Mitchell
Library, to talk about politics and power in early New South Wales,
the events that led to the arrest of Governor William Bligh in Sydney
in 1808 and in particular, the role played by John
Macarthur.
